On Thursday, Sept, 6 there was a celebration to officially open the new spa at Tsawaayuus Assisted Living Residence in Port Alberni. Tsawaayuus Foundation board member Sharean Van Volsen cut the ribbon while residents, guests and staff looked on.
Donors that contributed to the completion of the spa were acknowledged: Todd Patton, Bill and Brenda Goorts, the Royal Canadian Legion Building Committee, the Royal Canadian Legion Poppy Fund and the Fraternal Order of Eagles Ladies Auxiliary.
Representatives from the Royal Canadian Legion Building Committee, Bev Denning, Brian Thorburn and Louise Soulliere, presented a framed certificate to commemorate the special occasion.
Guests were provided a tour of the spa and they enjoyed cake and refreshments. Prizes were won by Grace David, Helen Denning and Elsie Mitchell.
Shaunee Casavant, manager at Tsawaayuus, explained that individuals who want to access the services may call 250-724-5655 to make arrangements for services they require.
Community members can enjoy a relaxing experience when they make an appointment to have a bath, hair shampoo, hand care or foot care. A certified Care Aide will oversee care of each client.
Little luxuries such as essential oils, scalp massages, hand massages and foot massages will be available in this trendy environment. Individuals who have mobility problems, injuries or other health concerns that make bathing difficult will find this a most welcome service.
The community bathing program came about as a result of community members approaching Tsawaayuus to use the bathtub in the residential care facility. Staff have made every effort to accommodate the requests over the last number of years. Now we are in a position to offer services with some extra pampering.
Board members, staff and residents at Tsawaayuus are so very appreciative of support from the community at large for rising to the occasion whenever help is requested.
