Several families are grieving the loss of a 28-year-old man after a deadly single vehicle accident took his life and caused injuries to three of his family members. The accident occurred on the evening of Wednesday, Feb. 20 approximately 6 kilometres west of Sutton Pass.
The Port Alberni RCMP issued a statement the next morning stating that they were dispatched to the scene of the accident at approximately 8:25 p.m. on Feb. 20.
“Upon arrival it was determined that a single vehicle with two adults and two children left the roadway, went down a steep embankment and came to rest against a tree,” read the RCMP statement.
It goes on to say that all four occupants were extricated from the vehicle, however, the 28 year-old male passenger died as a result of injuries sustained in the crash.
The 25 year-old female driver and a three year-old child sustained significant injuries. The second child, a six year-old girl, received minor injuries.
“At this time, lack of occupant restraints is considered to be a contributing factor to the significant injuries sustained by the vehicle’s occupants,” stated the media release.
