The Nuu-chah-nulth Tribal Council’s Teechuktl (mental health) and Quu?asa Program hosted the Feed the People Christmas lunch on Dec. 10 at Trinity Church in Port Alberni. It was the fifth year the lunch was held in honor of late Ray Seitcher, who dedicated his life to helping people.
Many Nuu-chah-nulth and other kuu-us families live in Port Alberni and they look forward each year to come together for a meal.
Participants of Ha-Shilth-Sa Newspaper’s Eyes and Ears on the Ground, a four-day workshop for freelance photographers and stringers, documented the event. The workshop is hosted in partnership with the Nuu-chah-nulth Employment and Training Program. Participants worked with professional journalists Bert Crowfoot, publisher and CEO of the Aboriginal Multi-Media Society, Deb Steel, editor/manager of Ha-Shilth-Sa Newspaper, Shayne Morrow, former daily news reporter and current Ha-Shilth-Sa contributor, and Nuu-chah-nulth reporter Wawmeesh Hamilton, formerly of Alberni Valley News, to prepare for the assignment.
