Environment Canada has issued a wind warning for coastal British Columbia, including west coast Vancouver Island. The warning was issued 10:23 a.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 12 and remains in effect for 16 hours.
A wind warning is issued when winds reach 70 kilometres an hour of sustained wind or gusts of 90 kilometres or more.
Damage to buildings, such as shingles and windows may occur. Loose objects may be tossed around by the wind causing injury or damage.
The marine weather forecast for the same period of time calls for wind southwest 25 to 35 knots, increasing to southwest 40 to 50 this afternoon, (up to 92.6 kilometres an hour) and diminishing to 20 to 30 this evening - except southerly 30 to 40 over southern sections. Wind is expected to turn westerly 10 to 20 after midnight, then becoming southeast 10 to 20 Thursday morning. Wind is forecasted to increase to south 25 to 35 knots Thursday afternoon then backing to southeast 35 to 45 Thursday evening.
Sea swells of four to six metres building to seven this evening.
